"The Pride Of Asbury" 24" x 30" Original Arcylic on Canvas 2014

 THE PRIDE OF ASBURY
by Julio CR, an original 24" x 30" Painting
 Acrylic on Canvas  - 2014

Critical to the success of Asbury's renaissance has been the influx of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans men and women since the mid 1990s. The businesses opened by and for LGBT Asburians include Cameo Bar, Geogies, Paradise at the Empress, The Tides, The Kissing Booth, and the Chat & Nibble.  Each is reflected in this original work, carefully detailed in the letters of Asbury, while beach scenes with actual Asbury residents are depicted in the letters of Park.  This work, deriviative of the Bruce Springsteen Album cover, will endure as a classic Asbury image for years to come.  Postcards, posters, and canvas reproductions, will make wonderful mementos for every gay stay in this fair city.

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.

  "THE INSTIUTION"

 Acrylic on Canvas  - 2014

There is something utterly gorgeous about the plain-ness of the exterior of Frank's Deli, Restaurant & Bakery.  What the front doesn't tell you, the inside will explain.  Teeming with locals, this 50+ year old family-owned breakfast jewel serves the shores most delectable lunch subs to boot.  This photo-realistic portrait of this mandatory Asbury tour stop is exquisite in its portrayal of this piece of true-retro Americana.

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.

"Pinup" 24" x 30" Original Acrylic on Canvas, 2014

PINUP
by Julio CR, an original 24" x 30" Painting
 Acrylic on Canvas  - 2014

Slated for demolition in 2014, Asbury Lanes is another town classic.  A vintage bowling joint, it doubles as a live music, burlesque and art venue complete with bar and greasy spoon.  The lanes double as center stage and dance floor, when the likes of Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly are in town.  PINUP, by Julio C.R. captures the essence of this place, with its dulling shine, and rust dripping front sign, the alley has seen better days.  The sky in this painting is a solid blue, representing the shiny and bold, but slightly conformist new development in Asbury.  PINUP is a reminder for us to keep the spirit of the old when we build the shiny new, or the character that made this city great will be lost.

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.

BEACH FORECAST
by Julio CR, an original 24" x 30" Painting
 Acrylic on Canvas  - 2014

Marie Castello who was known as Madam Marie, was an American fortune teller and psychic medium from 1932 until 2008. Madam Marie was the longest running tenant on the Asbury Park boardwalk.  This original work by Julio C.R. depicts not only the clarity and contemplative reflection of Madam Marie, but also the the serenity of the shore in winter, a pair of boardwalk strollers, and the sparkle of the mysterious interior.

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.

"Wonderful" Original Acrylic on Canvas 2014

 "Wonderful"
by Julio C.R. - a 24" x 30" original painting
Acrylic on Canvas - 2014

This is Tillie again, as he's never been seen before, in three dimensions, and with a body of sorts.  An iconic mascot for a city of fun, the face adorns the Wonderbar near the Boardwalk and is a wonderful reminder of the whimsy, amusement, and laughter ever present in this adult playground on the shore.  The colors represent the magical ethnic diversity of this beloved town.  Some have commented that Tillie looks like he is propelling into the air (firework like) in this depiction.  What is more emblematic of a town on the rise?

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.

"Curiosity" 24" x 30" Original Acrylic on Canvas 2014

                                                                    "CURIOSITY"
                                                    by Julio C.R., a 24" x 30" original
                                                          Acrylic on Canvas - 2014

Located at 1213 Ocean Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ, Wonder Bar features a painted mural portrait tribute to George C. Tilyou, the late owner of Steeplechase Amusement Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY. Tillie, as the iconic park owner became known, is an instantly recognizable face on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Two mural portraits of Tillie were painted on the Palace Amusements Building and although the buildings were destroyed in 1994 after more than 100 years on the shore the original murals were preserved and are maintained by the City of Asbury. This acrylic work by Julio, inspired by an original photograph reveals a peaking Tillie and leaves us curious about what is behind both the bright blue and white gate and the glass doors.  This coming weekend (4/18/14), for example, McCauley Culkin will be playing a pizza box as drums!

"The Empress" 24" x 30" Original Acrylic on Canvas 2014

"THE EMPRESS"
 by Julio C.R., an original 24" x 30" painting.
Acrylic on Canvas (unframed) - 2014

In the last 50 years, the inside of 101 Asbury Avenue has seen the likes of Judy Garland, her daughter Liza, and other ACTUAL drag queens.  The place was once shuttered for becoming a drug and prostitution hotspot, has been featured on the picture sleeve of Bruce Springsteen's "Hungry Heart" single, and has been restyled and resurrected as a gay resort by a Madonna-affiliated music producer.  Yet, from the outside, the plain 60's mod-facade belies the scandal-plagued interior.  The dirty pink crown of the Empress Hotel is emblematic of the gritty glamor of Asbury Park itself, and this work, with its "dirty whites" reflects the town's rejection of conformity and homogeneity and its distinctive beach-urban mystique.

"Dissimulation" Original Acrylic on Canvas 2014

"DISSIMULATION"
by Julio CR, an original 24" x 30" painting
Acrylic on Canvas - 2014

An obvious departure from shoreREALISM, and Julio CR's first painting ever, "Dissimulation" is reflective of the artist himself.  The word "dissimulation", which can be defined as the concealment of an ability, is relate-able for Julio, who hid his innate artistic talent for years before his recent discovery.  The subject of this painting, a coy but beautiful french woman, takes protection from the night at a planted brick wall and but offers the viewer a glimpse of her beauty and seductive nature.

A limited number of reproduction canvases and digital prints will be available in summer 2014. Please contact us for further details.
